about

This is one of those magical songs that wrote itself. I woke up with a hangover one morning and the whole thing hit me. I immediately recorded a rough vocal into my phone and headed over the the keyboard to compose it. The best songs usually happen this way!

I grew up singing blues songs along with my father on guitar. Even as a little girl, the sadder the song, the more I became lost in it. Lots of Ray Charles and Bonnie Raitt ballads back then. Because dark soul ballads are such a strength for me, it's become a tradition to do a song like this at every Max Caddy show adn on every project. Jesse and I knew this one was special from the first time we played it together.

Writing this track was was the first time I admitted to myself that in a particular situation I had enough on perspective by then, I had let myself become attached to someone who was unavailable to me. I quite literally went to the same bar every night looking for them and they were never there. It took a lot of mezcal and a lot of drunk uber rides home for me to learn my lesson but I got a damn great song out of it!"

lyrics

i don’t know how I can live in such denial
that kind of thinking only last a little while
I’d write you a letter but what the hell would it
say?

I just want you to look in my direction some-
day

I went to the same bar every night
hoping that you would be there
it was a let down every time
just looking at that empty chair

i said to the bartender
fill up my glass to the top
another shot
straight to the face

to forget why I'm here in the first place

it's crazy how I lie to myself
more than anybody else
playing it cool but I’m checkin for you
where do you disappear to?

you can give it to me, hit me with the truth
I know you’ve already found someone new

and since there is no more at stake
I've got a confession to make

I went to the same bar every night
hoping that you would be there
it was a let down every time
just looking at that empty chair

i said to the bartender
fill up my glass to the top
another shot
straight to the face

another shot
straight to the face
